Verstraete in trouble with Cologne

first_imgBERLIN, Germany (AP):COLOGNE HAS called midfielder Birger Verstraete to account for an interview he gave in which he criticised the club for its handing of three positive cases of the coronavirus. The Bundesliga side said yesterday that Verstraete had given a false impression about training safety measures at the club in an interview Saturday with Belgian TV station VTM. It said it was abiding by the league’s medical advice and that all players would be tested again before training can resume today. In a statement on the club website, Verstraete said, “Instead of giving an interview out of emotion, I should have contacted our doctor and had my questions answered. It was not my intention to blame the responsible authorities or FC Cologne.”Verstraete had told VTM in an interview Saturday that two players and a physiotherapist were confirmed with COVID-19 and that he was finding it hard to focus on football, especially as his girlfriend is at high risk due to a previous heart condition.“I want everyone to be healthy before we play football again,” Verstraete said. VERY CLOSE The players had been training in small groups, but that hadn’t eased Verstraete’s concerns.“We train in two groups and you know that the boys were extremely close to me,” Verstraete told VTM. “The test was done on Thursday around 4 p.m., and before that we had been together constantly from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We did fitness work together, trained together. Thursday’s test didn’t show that I am positive and that is why there will be another test tomorrow.”The three affected individuals were immediately ordered to self-quarantine for 14 days, but otherwise training was to continue as before.Team doctor Paul Klein defended the club’s handling of the cases on Saturday, saying training with those who tested negative was still possible “due to the hygiene and infection-prevention measures in group training”, as no one had come into prolonged contact with those affected. But Verstraete said the decision not to quarantine the whole squad “is a bit bizarre”.last_img read more

Johnson Disappointed With Derby Defeat

first_imgPeter Whittingham’s first-half penalty and Sol Bamba’s goal midway through the second period left City with a lot to do against a Cardiff team buoyed by the arrival of new manager Neil Warnock.Lee Tomlin’s quick-fire reply gave the visitors a lifeline, but Bobby Reid lifted a late chance over the crossbar and Cardiff held on.“I’m obviously really disappointed because it’s a game we wanted to win and it’s a game we felt we could win,” Johnson told Bristol City Player HD.“Obviously it changed the dynamic a bit with Neil coming in and that was the bit that disappointed me about my team in the first half – I didn’t feel we played the right game.“We played into their hands and our units were too spread. That’s very unusual for us and I don’t know why it happened.“Maybe it was the fact that it was on Sky or maybe it was the atmosphere – even though it was nowhere near the Ashton Gate atmosphere.“I thought we gave it a go in the second half. Tammy Abraham hasn’t been well in the last three or four days and it was a gamble to play him, but I don’t think we got enough supply into him anyway.“Cardiff kill a lot of the game – they take a long time to take a throw-in with the way they dry the ball with the towel – and the time that the ball is in play is a very short period compared to what it would normally would be. You’ve got to deal with that and today we didn’t.“Bobby is unfortunate because Bamba gets a little touch to put him off. Had we got a draw we might’ve deserved it on endeavour but maybe not through quality. It just wasn’t to be today.”last_img read more

Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool & Valencia want Bojan

first_img 16/12/2015 Upd. at 19:32 It’s for that reason Bojan is once again interesting various clubs, clubs who are lining him up for next season. It will not be easy because the player is currently happy in Mark Hughes’ side and, in addition, he has a contract until 2018. But in football you never know. Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are all watching him. They consider him a very appealing player. The boy from Linyola has adapted well to English football and is proving he’s at the same level as the best players in the league.  Bojan has played 14 times this season, scoring three goals, but more than that, he has won the admiration of the Premier League due to his influence over Stoke’s play. He plays as a No.10 at the Britannia Stadium and has total freedom, allowing his best qualities to shine through.  Before a serious injury last season, Bojan Krkic was catching the attention of various clubs, one of them being one of the Premier League’s biggest sides. The injury, though, ended that interest. However, this season, after recovering, he has returned to form and is once again leading Stoke City, who are having a good campaign. center_img CET Ivan San Antonio But the three English clubs are not the only ones interested in Bojan. Valencia are also following him and Los Che are convinced he would be a perfect fit at Mestalla. Any one of the four could make a move for him in January, but it’s more likely the serious offers will arrive at the end of the season.last_img read more

Man Utd goalkeeper David de Gea could buy Elche CF

first_img Elche’s maximum shareholder, Jose Sepulcre, was negotiating the sale of the club with Christian Bragarnik, although talks have called in recent weeks.  If De Gea steps in to take over the club, he would follow other players in investing the game, such as Gerard Pique, who purchased Andorra recently.  De Gea is a season ticket holder at Elche, which is where his father was born and where he spent part of his childhood. It would cost him around 18 million euros to take over the club.  IN SPORT.ES Upd. on 05/10/2019 at 11:28 CEST According to reports in Superdeporte, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea could become the new owner of Spanish side Elche. center_img The Spain international recently extended his contract with United until 2023. 04/10/2019 Rafa Nofuentes De Gea podría comprar el Elche CFlast_img read more
