Greek police busts major human trafficking ring on Christmas Day

first_imgGreek police arrested a Romanian man and a woman in Thessaloniki on the charge of migrant trafficking on Christmas Day.Following information, a special force raided a warehouse in the industrial area of the city where they found 44 illegal immigrants.The man, 34, and the woman, 27, were taken into custody after they were followed and seen leaving the warehouse.According to the Thessaloniki police department report, the migrants had paid 1,700 euros ($1,940) each to traffickers to cross the border between Greece and Turkey in a van, with the purpose to transport them to a still-unknown destination.The 44 migrants had crossed the border in small groups are also in custody. Twenty-seven of them were from Pakistan, fifteen from Afghanistan and two from Bangladesh.
