Residents can look forward to better roads in Inverness County. A $1.6 million contract has recently been awarded to repave threesections of roadway in the county, 11.2 kilometres in total. “This work will greatly improve the road network in InvernessCounty,” said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and PublicWorks. “Repaving sections of three major arteries that runthrough the county will certainly benefit the area’s economy.” The contract covers: The contract was awarded to Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. Work isexpected to be completed by Oct. 31. The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of road in NovaScotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincialferries. Staff provide services from district offices inBridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney. TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS–Road Improvements in InvernessCounty Highway 105: 600 metres west of River Denys Mountain Road stretching 4.2 kilometres east; 4 kilometres of Trunk 19: 900 metres north of River Denys Mountain Road, north to 250 metres north of Sandy Gillis Bridge; and 3 kilometres of the Port Hastings Rotary on Highway 104.
