50 Jamaicans Free of Mortgage Under Special Debt Forgiveness Programme

first_imgFifty Jamaicans from across the island will close out the country’s Jubilee year mortgage free, under a special debt forgiveness programme called the Jubilee ‘50 for 50’ Housing Initiative, by the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing. The beneficiaries were on July 30, handed their titles at a special ceremony, held at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston.Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, who delivered the main address at the event, noted that her administration has a firm commitment to put thousands of land titles in the hands of Jamaicans, through the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing.“We believe that security of tenure, the ability to own your house should be the right of every Jamaican. And so this gesture today is one of several programmes being implemented by the Ministry of Housing to provide opportunities for security of tenure for persons who have been occupying lands over a period of time,” Mrs. Simpson Miller said. She however, warned against the capturing of land, noting that the Government has plans for the land.  “What is not for agriculture is to provide housing for our people and we are not into people breaking the law. (I am) not supporting it. Not in my constituency, not anywhere in Jamaica,” she emphasized.Under the Jubilee ‘50 for 50’ Housing Initiative, the primary account holder should be 50 years or older; balance on the account should be less than $50,000; the account should not be inactive for more than 50 weeks; and the Registered Certificate of Title for the property should be available. The Prime Minster pointed to the historical significance of the beneficiaries getting their titles just two days before Emancipation Day (August 1) and close to Independence (celebrated on August 6), noting that it was a  fitting tribute to “our ancestors whose struggles achieved freedom from slavery,” and to (National Heroes) Norman Manley and Sir Alexander Bustamante, who fought for independence. She contended that the celebration of Emancipation should mean something to the nation. “That is why the government took the decision that the great, great, great grand children of our ancestors should benefit while we celebrate as we close out our 50th anniversary,” she said. For his part, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing, Hon. Dr. Morais Guy, challenged beneficiaries to make good use of the money saved from the debt forgiveness exercise.“The money that you will no longer be required to pay as mortgage this month, next month and all the other months that would have become due without this initiative, I want you to put it to good use. We are investing in you and in turn, we are urging you to invest in yourself, invest in your family, invest in your home and invest in your community,” he urged. He noted that the 50 titles are among the approximately 7,000 titles that the Ministry is pushing to have transferred within this fiscal year. The Minister also informed that the Jubilee ‘50 for 50’ Housing Initiative is symbolic of the administration’s social partnership with the people. Final flight to Columbus caps road schedule

first_imgThe two teams did battle last weekend and came out with a split. Buckeyes star forward Natalie Spooner, one of the top goal-scorers in the conference, found the net three times and accounted for six of her teamâÄôs points.âÄúWhenever sheâÄôs on the ice, youâÄôve got to be aware of her and her whereabouts,âÄù Gillanders said. âÄúIf she gets the puck, sheâÄôs going to get chances. ItâÄôs better if you always know where she is so you can shut her down.âÄùThe Gophers swept Ohio State earlier in the year, and with more stellar play as of late, they have virtually locked up the No. 2 seed. The only way Minnesota could drop a place in the standings is if it lost the rest of its games and North Dakota won out.The Gophers have suffered just one loss since Dec. 10 and will be looking for their third straight sweep.Despite all that, theyâÄôre still trailing No. 1 Wisconsin by six points, and the Badgers have a date with conference cellar dweller St. Cloud State this weekend.Gophers forward Stephanie Anderson credited the teamâÄôs success to its improved chemistry and said that Minnesota players âÄúare always doing something together off the ice.âÄùThis weekend, theyâÄôll be back on the ice, and Frost expects their opponent to put up a better fight this time around.âÄúTheyâÄôre a very tough beat at home. âĦ TheyâÄôve improved throughout the year,âÄù he said. âÄúItâÄôs going to be very tough there.âÄùFrost has made a habit this season of talking up bad teams before laying the hurt on them. Final flight to Columbus caps road scheduleMinnesota swept the Buckeyes earlier in the season. Samuel GordonFebruary 9, 2012Jump to CommentsShare on FacebookShare on TwitterShare via EmailPrint Earlier in the season, the Gophers womenâÄôs hockey team had trouble finding consistency on the road in WCHA play. Minnesota, which is undefeated at home, split road series with Wisconsin, Bemidji State, North Dakota and Minnesota-Duluth.But after picking up sweeps at Minnesota State and St. Cloud State in successive weekends, the No. 2 Gophers have found harmony away from home. ThatâÄôs something theyâÄôll hope to take to Columbus when they square off with Ohio State in their final road series of the season.âÄúThis past weekend I thought we played really well and hard and consistent for 120 minutes of hockey,âÄù head coach Brad Frost said. âÄúThatâÄôs something weâÄôve struggled with just on the road.âÄùFrost also expressed a degree of relief in the conclusion of the road schedule.âÄúI think the biggest thing is that itâÄôs showing that itâÄôs the end of the year. WeâÄôre in an important time, needing to continue to win some hockey games,âÄù he said. âÄúIf all goes well in the playoffs, weâÄôre going to be on the road anyways.âÄùUnlike the last two weekends, however, Minnesota (24-4-2, 18-4-2 WCHA) will have to fly âÄî for just the second time this season âÄî 760 miles to Ohio StateâÄôs campus.âÄúSometimes it takes a lot of energy out of your body when youâÄôre taking a lot of time to fly to places,âÄù defender Baylee Gillanders said. âÄúWeâÄôre flying out Thursday so then we can get our legs ready for FridayâÄôs game.âÄùThen, theyâÄôll tango with the Buckeyes, who are fighting for playoff positioning in the WCHA Tournament.Ohio StateâÄôs 38 points (15-11-4, 12-11-1 WCHA) have it tied for fourth in the conference with Minnesota-Duluth.last_img read more

Now Jadon has to ask himself whether he would get the playing time he gets in Dortmund when he moves to England, or would he just sit on the bench?“Playing time is so important for a young player like Jadon, so if he gets the most playing time in Dortmund, he should stay there.” Advertisementlast_img read more

Report says a number of buildings in Dawson Creek’s Exhibition Park no longer usable

first_imgDAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The City of Dawson Creek says it will be working with stakeholders going forward after a report to City Council found that half of the building square footage in Collins Exhibition Park should be torn down.In a release on Thursday, the City explained that it has been exploring the possibility of adopting a Sports Event Tourism Model for the benefits it could provide to the area economy. As part of this initiative, an assessment of City-owned facilities was completed to look for any current opportunities that could enhance the Model. While looking at the opportunities, the City said that concerns were identified at Collins Exhibition Park after Force Engineering Group Inc. was hired to complete an assessment. The report indicated to Council that several of the structures within the Park have reached their end of service life and can no longer be used.“Our report concludes that approximately one half of all the structures (by area) reviewed have reached their end of service life structurally, or pose a significant risk that they cannot, by building code mandates, justify continued use or operation. We recommend that due to the hazard level, the seven stables numbered 7.1 through 7.7 be placarded against further use, and demolition of structures commenced as soon as practical,” reads the report.- Advertisement -City Council says it has met with the Dawson Creek Exhibition Association and the Dawson Creek & District Stables and Arena Association to review the engineers report and will continue to work with these user groups to explore possible options going forward.Advertisement “We recognize the importance of the events that take place at the Exhibition Park, and we will continue to work with the groups to ensure its long term viability,” said Mayor Bumstead. The 2018 Building Structural Assessments Report is available for review below.last_img read more

ClickIt: Virtual Lineup™

first_imgClickIt’s Virtual Lineup™ brings to market a patented, game-changing way of assigning unique anonymous Tracking IDs to individuals as they enter your store. The Tracking ID stays with the individual for the duration of their visit and the same anonymous Tracking ID is assigned upon subsequent visits. In fact once an individual is assigned a unique Tracking ID it remains with them and will be reported upon when they enter any other store in your chain.Combining these Tracking IDs with ClickIt’s VMS, metadata is gathered about an individual’s activities. The metadata is stored locally on the stores ClickIt VMS and sent to the retailer’s headquarters to be stored on their ClickIt Central Management System. SDI: The Foundation for Cloud

first_imgWhen it comes to the cloud, there is no single answer to the question of how to ensure the optimal performance, scalability, and portability of workloads. There are, in fact, many answers, and they are all tied to the interrelated layers of the software-defined infrastructure (SDI) stack. The recently announced Intel Cloud for All Initiative is focused directly at working with cloud software vendors and the community to deliver fully optimized SDI stacks that can serve a wide array of apps and data.  To better understand the underlying strategy driving the Cloud for All Initiative, it’s important to see the relationships between each layer of the SDI stack. In this post, we will walk through the layers of the SDI stack, as shown here. The foundationThe foundation of Software Defined Infrastructure is the creation of infrastructure resource pools establishing compute, storage and network services.  These resource pools utilize the performance and platform capabilities of Intel architecture, to enable applications to understand and then control what they utilize. Our work with the infrastructure ecosystem is focused on ensuring that the infrastructure powering the resource pools is always optimized for a wide array of SDI stacks. The OS layerAt the operating system level, the stack includes commonly used operating systems and software libraries that allow applications to achieve optimum performance while enabling portability from one environment to another. Intel has a long history of engineering with both OS vendors and the community, and has extended this work to extend to light weight OS that provide greater efficiency for cloud native workloads. The virtualization layerMoving up the stack, we have the virtualization layer, which is essential to software-defined infrastructure. Without virtualization, SDI would not be possible. But in this context, virtualization can include more than just typical hypervisors. In order to establish resources pools the infrastructure components of compute, storage, and network are virtualized through various means.  The most optimum resource pools are those that can continue to scale out to meet the growing needs of their consumers. Last but not least, the performance isolation provided by containers can be considered OS virtualization which has enabled a whole new set of design patterns for developers to use.  For both containers and hypervisors, Intel is working with software providers to fully utilize the capabilities ofIntel® Virtualization TechnologyOpens in a new window (Intel® VT) to drastically reduce performance overhead and increase security isolation.  For both storage and network, we have additional libraries and instruction sets that help deliver the best performance possible for this wide array of infrastructure services. The orchestration layerThere are numerous orchestration layers and schedulers available, however for this discussion we will focus on those being built in the open; OpenStack, Apache Mesos, and KubernetesOpens in a new window.  This layer provides central oversight of the status of the infrastructure, what is allocated and what is consumed, how applications or tenants are deployed, and how to best meet the goals of most DC infrastructure teams…. Increase utilization while maintaining performance. Intel’s engagement within the orchestration layer focuses on working with the industry to both harden this layer as well as bring in advanced algorithms that can help all DC’s become more efficient.  Some examples are our work in the OpenStack community to improve the availability of the cloud services themselves, and to provide rolling upgrades so that the cloud and tenants are always on.  In Mesos, we are working to help users of this technology use all available computing slack so they can improve their TCO.The developer environmentThe entire SDI infrastructure is really built to power the developers code and data which all of us as consumers use every day of our life.  Intel has a long history of helping improve debugging tools, making it easier for developers to move to new design patterns like multi-threaded, and now distributed systems, and helping developers get the most performance out of their code.  We will continue to increase our focus here to make sure that developers can focus on making the best SW, and let the tools help them build always on highly performant apps and services. For a close-up look at Intel’s focus on standards-based innovation for the SDI stack, check out the related sessions at the Intel Developer ForumOpens in a new window, which takes place August 18 – 20 in San Francisco. These events will include a class that dives down into the Intel vision for the open, standards-based SDI stacks that are the key to mainstream cloud adoption.last_img read more
