Jose Mourinho WRONG to publicly criticise Luke Shaw, talkSPORT told

first_imgRichard Dunne has told talkSPORT Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was wrong to publicly criticise defender Luke Shaw, after the boss openly questioned his commitment to the club.In an astonishing attack, the Red Devils boss said the full-back is ‘a long way behind’ his team-mates after he again failed to make the match-day squad for their Premier League clash against West Brom.Shaw has failed to impress since returning to fitness this season after ten months out with a broken leg. The £33m signing last featured against Bournemouth almost a month ago, and has found himself on the end of more than one public tirade from his boss. But former Manchester City defender Dunne insists young players – Shaw is still only 21 – need an arm around their shoulder instead of being openly criticised, and questioned whether they are getting the right support at Old Trafford.Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Dunne said: “Managers always want to get more out of their players – they expect more and want more.“I’m sure we’ve all had it where they’ve pulled you aside and they do it privately, and that’s fine, but to do it publicly is very harsh.“The way he’s gone over the weekend – he’s criticised more of the younger lads than any of the senior pros.“I suppose it’s a way of trying to get a reaction out of them, but sometimes they need a bit of encouragement and need an arm around their shoulder.“It doesn’t seem that they’re going to get that at United.”last_img read more
