UWF Comes From Behind to Beat Harding 2-1 in Overtime

first_img Share PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida men’s soccer team came from behind to defeat conference opponent Harding University in overtime 2-1. With the win the Argonauts secure their perfect 2011 home record going 5-0-2 at home and improved to 7-2-2 overall.In the first half West Florida controlled the tempo taking seven shots to Harding’s one. The Bisons made their one shot count though as Connor Galloway scored in the 18th minute on a penalty kick. The Argos trailed 1-0 after a physical first half which consisted of five cautions. The Argos knotted the score at one when Will Henderson (Orange Park, Fla./Orange Park HS) redirected a pass from Jack Salafrio (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) at the penalty marker into the back of the net, just 56 seconds into the second half. Physical play continued throughout the second half as two more cautions were issued while teams ended regulation tied at one. Just five minutes into overtime the Argos were awarded a penalty kick. Marquel Waldron (Warwick, Bermuda/Saltus Grammar School) stepped up and drove it past the diving Bison keeper to give UWF the victory and secure the perfect home record. It was fitting that the four year UWF senior scored the winning goal in his final home go as an Argo.The West Florida men’s soccer team will be back in action Friday October 14 against Christian Brothers in Memphis, Tenn.
