Flathead Valley resident Gerald “Jay” Scott announced his candidacy for the Flathead County Commission District 3 seat, currently held by Dale Lauman. The election will be on the 2012 ballot. Scott managed the Flathead County Fairgrounds for 12 years and has owned several businesses in the area. He has been involved with several local clubs and is also a member of 4-H, the Elk Foundation, the National Rifle Association and the Montana Livestock Growers Association. According to a press release, Scott decided to run for county commissioner after his employment contract with the county was not renewed.“I have witnessed the enforcement of county policy in an uneven way,” Scott wrote. “This isn’t fair to anyone. Policy should be made and enforced regardless of any political agenda.”Scott also wrote that he would like to help bring businesses to the Flathead Valley to improve the current unemployment rate. Scott currently faces competition from Kalispell businessman Terry Kramer, who announced his candidacy for the District 3 seat last December.
